It was the millennium shift and we were on our first longlong-distance trip and first visit to Mexico.
The Advice we got prior to our first visit to Mexico
When we visited a doctor prior to trip for a vaccination shot, he gave us the advice to avoid ice during our stay, to minimize the risk of stomach bug. Easy to avoid, we thought. The plane took off from a chilly Copenhagen and after a short stop for refuel in a wintry Maine in the northeast of United States our feet took ground for the first time in Mexico in sunny Puerto Vallarta. A bus took us to the city and our hotel. It was afternoon and we headed out directly and went up to the center of town. The heat made us immediately thirsty and we went into a outdoor café.

The wonderful thing about a Frozen in heat
What could cool off us in the best manor? A lime-based drink sounded perfect and when the waitress suggested a Margarita it seemed like the obvious choice here in Mexico. Then she asked if it would be Frozen … ah, what that would be delicious … obvious we said “Si gracias” without hesitation.
Only a few minutes later, two gigantic glasses was put in front of us, misty and the fumes of cold coming from the icy glass. It was indescribably tasty, and it was almost impossible to stop drinking until everything was gone. Just a few seconds after the last drop was drunk, we looked at each other … “but … uh, the thing about avoiding ice the doctor said?” We realized that we completely forgotten his advice – but we ignored that now and never got any problem because of that.
Margarita worldwide
After this first encounter with a real Mexican Margarita, we had one almost every day on the rest of our wonderful holiday. The drink became a clear favorite and we’ve have had Margaritas at lots of destinations around the world, but it’s always a bit special while in Mexico or at real Mexican restaurants in other parts of the world.
